Trauma
Can often look like
Feeling constantly on edge or as though you can never fully relax.
Avoiding certain people, places, memories, or emotions.
Feeling emotionally numb or disconnected from yourself and others.
Difficulty trusting people or allowing yourself to be vulnerable.
Feeling shame, guilt, or believing that something is fundamentally wrong with you.
Reacting strongly to situations that don't seem to affect others in the same way.
Feeling like the past continues to influence your present, even when you wish you could move on.
My Approach
Trauma is not defined solely by what happened to you, but by the lasting impact it has had on your emotional world, relationships, and sense of safety. Sometimes trauma develops following a single overwhelming event. Other times, it emerges gradually through repeated experiences of feeling unseen, unsafe, criticized, or emotionally alone.
Therapy is not about forcing yourself to "get over it." Rather, it is about helping you feel less controlled by it. Together, we work to better understand how your experiences have shaped the ways you protect yourself, relate to others, and experience your emotions today. As that understanding grows, new possibilities often begin to emerge - not by erasing the past, but by helping it have less influence over your present.
